Guest speaker Lyndal Anthony presents at the ZVW October, 2018 monthly meeting, examples of his turnings below.
Lyndal covered a lot of ground from the 40/40 grind he uses on his gouges to his cutting techniques for getting a clean cut rapidly.
In a discussion of cutting with the grain Lyndal demonstrated how he cut ‘downhill’ from the center to the outside wall on the inside of a bowl.
If you look close you can see the ‘shine’ on the outer surface of the bowl immediately after this cut. Very little sanding will be required when cut cleanly.
Proof that cutting cleanly reduces stress and vibration was demonstrated by cutting this green wood bowl very thin. If the tool was pushing outward on this surface the thin wall would move… a lot!
